Welcome to Gaffadesign
We publish and distribute communication in the form of printed matter. (Clearly we don’t design websites for a living.) Please find below some titles we published so far. Feel free to browse, or to send an email with your enquiry. (Gaffa is the publishing venture of Paulus M. Dreibholz)

MAtters – editor in chief : Paulus M. Dreibholz and, published by Gaffa Limited – is a publication which aims to instigate and promote a discussion of issues surrounding design education at MA-level. It is aimed at current and future postgraduate design students, design educators and the creative industry.

MAtters is comprised of two parts: The first book holds the edited transcript of an event that took place in Summer 2009 at the Candid Café in London. This event featured three chaired panel discussions (students, educators and practitioners) engaging with issues of postgraduate design education, such as responsibilities, employability, assumptions and other pressing subjects, providing an invaluable insight into current developments.

Chairs and panel members: Patricia Austin, Nick Bell, Russell Bestley, Sophie Clements, David Cross, Tom Foley, James Goggin, Andrew Haslam, Ken Hollings, Paul Luna, Monika Parrinder, Martin Schoberer, Ben Stevenson, Teal Triggs, Brian Webb, Paul Wright

The second book showcases a selection of work and essays by the students of the Master in Communication Design course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Indexed by keywords, it provides the visual context for current issues and raises the new concerns of the next generation of graphic designers.

Fifteen typographic projects – conducted by students of the MA Communication design course – presented at research stage. Guest contributions by Rick Poynor, Freda Sack and John Morgan.

A publication which offers a platform for discussion about the usefulness and necessity of academic and practice-based research in the field of typography. It proposes an in depth reading between specific essays and works of the students of the MA Type and Language course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design as well as related text from leading British designers. The objective of the publication is to create a dialogue between the students and the industry and to generate a discussion about the notions of typography and language. The layered nature of the subject and also of this publication is reflected in the title for many readings. The traditional definition for language indicates a system of spoken sounds or conventional symbols for communicating thought.
